The 13th Annual Ivory Crockett Run for Webster took place on October 15th, 2016. This was a record year with over 500 participants running the event. The morning began with families gathering in front of Webster Groves High School surrounded by the WGHS Cheerleaders and the WGHS Band. Elementary students from Edgar Road School, Bristol Elementary and Clark Elementary kicked off the event with the singing of our National Anthem. From there, runners took their mark and headed out for the 5k race and 1 mile fun run. Our winner of the 5k race this year was Mark Spewak with a time of 16:58 minutes!!! Families and friends ran or walked the course and lots of volunteers where placed along the route for safety and directions to keep everyone on track. Special thanks goes to Big River Running for helping with race route, registration, and timing.
After the 5k and 1 mile fun run were complete, the main event of the 100 yard dash began. Students ages prek – 6th grade each had a chance to see how fast they could

run 100 yards! From the tiny little pre kindergarten kids to the big 6th graders, there were some FAST runners. Fredbird even made a visit to the event and high fived all the kids as they crossed the finish line.
Our special guest for the morning was Mr. Ivory Crockett. Mr. Crockett is the fastest man in the world holding the 100 yard dash record of 9.1 seconds. We are honored to be able to have Mr. Crockett attend this event year after year. To learn more about the Ivory Crockett Story, visit: http://www.wgsdfoundation.org/ivory-crockett-story.html.
The morning wouldn’t have been complete without the help of Chris’ Pancakes to serve up thousands of pancakes at the Pancake Breakfast inside the WGHS Cafeteria. Families gathered to have breakfast, spend time with friends, and have a chance to participate in kids crafts and purchase Webster Groves Spirit Wear provided by the Webster Groves Parent Club.
The WGSD Foundation would like to thank our sponsors who made this event possible. Thank you to The Moneta Group, Winning Streak, Ameren and the Webster Groves Baseball/Softball League. Their support allows us to continue this rich tradition in the wonderful community of Webster Groves.
Save the date… Next year’s race is scheduled for October 21st, 2017
